Analysis Properties are used to assign selected failure methods (organized by Failure Modes) to Zones and Joints for Sizing/Analysis. Analysis Properties are organized in the Property Tree.
A Failure Mode is a collection of related analysis methods, their state, and their respective factors and settings. They are associated with a specific category of criteria - for example, Metallic Strength is a category, and the corresponding Failure Mode will contain Von-Mises, Max Principal, and the various directional strength methods HyperX supports for isotropic plates.

Failure Modes are stored in the Database Library. They are selected to define Analysis Properties, which are then assigned to Zones/Joints. These are the methods that will be evaluated for each Zone/Joint prescribed during Analysis and Sizing.
The image above shows a Panel Buckling Failure Mode. All failure methods that fall under the Panel Buckling category are available to toggle, and their corresponding Analysis Settings can be defined accordingly.
Note
For each type of Failure Mode, the criteria and settings may vary, but the overall functionality of the form remains the same.
Attributes and Types

Failure Modes are comprised of failure methods - each of which can be toggled on or off to select the margins of safety to be written.

Failure Modes are Database-level entities and therefore can be shared between Projects in the Database, saved as part of a Database Template, and imported/exported between Databases.

Create
From the Ribbon
Failure Mode creation mechanisms are organized by type and concept on the ‘Analysis’ tab of the Ribbon. Select the desired concept to create the corresponding type of Failure Mode.
From the Analysis Property Form
Select the ‘Create a new failure mode’ option.
Organize
Failure Modes are organized in the Library found below the Property Tree. From here, they can be selected for inclusion in as many Analysis Properties as needed.
An Analysis Property is a collection of Failure Modes. When assigned to a Zone or Joint, they define the analysis criteria used to write margins of safety for that Zone/Joint. Analysis Properties are stored and managed in the 'Analyses' node of the Property Tree. An example Analysis Property applicable to a sandwich panel design is shown below.
Attributes

Analysis Properties are stored in the Database and therefore can be shared by multiple Projects in the Database (see Sharing Properties Between Projects), saved as part of Database Templates, and passed between Databases.

Analysis Properties contain Failure Modes, which are used to define the appropriate failure criteria to be applied to prescribed Zones/Joints.

Analysis Properties are assigned to Zones and Joints. The selected Zones/Joints then inherit all Failure Modes contained in that Analysis Property. This defines how that Zone/Joint will be evaluated during Analysis/Sizing.

One Analysis Property can be assigned to as many Zones/Joints as applicable, as long as the Zone/Joint type is consistent with the Analysis Property type (i.e. a 2D Plate Analysis Property cannot be assigned to a 1D beam Zone).

One Zone/Joint can only have a single Analysis Property assigned.

There are three types of Analysis Properties.
Panel
A Panel Analysis Property collects the Failure Mode selection required to define the failure criteria assessed for 2-dimensional Zones (made up of shell elements).
Important
A Panel Analysis Property must be assigned to a 2D Zone before it can be Analyzed or Sized.
An example metal Panel Analysis Property is shown in the image below.
There are several different Panel Analysis Properties that can be automatically created (see Create Analysis Property). These are based on the possible Panel Design Property concepts and the corresponding failure criteria that are typically applied to Zones of that definition. Beam
A Beam Analysis Property collects the Failure Mode selection required to define the failure criteria assessed for 1-dimensional Zones (made up of bar elements).
Important
A Beam Analysis Property must be assigned to a 1D Zone before it can be Analyzed or Sized.
An example Beam Analysis Property is shown in the image below.

Joints
A Joint Analysis Property collects the Failure Mode selection required to define the failure criteria assessed for Joints.

Organize and Assign
Analysis Properties are organized by type and concept on the Property Tree. There are a few ways to assign them to any selection of Zones or Joints, such as:

Dragging the Property from the Property Tree and directly onto the selected Zones/Joints in the Viewport.

Dragging the Property from the Property Tree and directly onto the desired Structure or Set in the Structure Tree.

Right-click on the Property and select ‘Apply to Visible Selection'.
