Database Templates are used to enforce consistent Database Defaults, Material Libraries, Design Properties, Load Properties, and Analysis Properties across multiple Databases. The selected data is stored as a *.hdb3 file whose location is recorded in the Templates.xml file. This Templates.xml file is seen by all HyperX Databases by default, thereby allowing any Database access to the list of existing Database Templates. They are particularly useful for collaboration within a team of engineers.

A Database Template is selected when creating a new Database to populate desired fields from the start.

A Database Template can be created at any time by saving the current working HyperX Database. This option is found in the Database tab of the Ribbon.

Open the Create Database Template Form by selecting to 'Save as template' option in the Database tab of the Ribbon.

All Database Defaults are automatically 'committed' to the Template upon selecting this button.

Select Design Properties to be saved (if applicable).

Select Load Properties to be saved (if applicable).

Select Analysis Properties to be saved (if applicable).

Select all desired Materials to be saved (if applicable).

Select Fasteners to be saved (if applicable).

Select Rivets to be saved (if applicable).

Click 'Save' to launch the file browser. Name the Database Template and select a file location.

Define the analysis criteria used to write margins of safety for the Zone they're assigned to. They are a collection of Failure Modes.
In addition to the Database Templates automatically supplied with a new HyperX license, there are situations in which multiple Database Templates are useful to the same engineer or program. For example, if a single aircraft program is tasked with sizing both the wing and the fuselage, each of those pieces of structure will likely require different Design Properties, analysis defaults, and material systems. In this case, it is useful to have a Database Template for each Structure.
Each time a Database Template is created, the file location is stored in the Templates.xml file. During the initial HyperX install, this file is automatically placed here: C:\HyperX\Database Template\Templates.xml
The contents of this file can be managed either from the HyperX UI or by directly editing the Templates.xml file.
Managing Database Templates in the UI

Navigate to the Database tab of the Ribbon and select 'Manage templates.'
This will launch the Database Template Management Form.

Use the form to add, rename, apply, or change the location of any Database Template.

Select 'Apply' to save changes.

Templates.xml- see below.

Managing Database Templates Directly from the Templates.xml File

Find the location of the
Templates.xmlfile using the Database Template Management Form. -
Open the
.xmlin preferred text editor. This file will look something akin to: -
Edit as desired. The name and location of each Database Template can be directly edited. Additional Database Templates can also be added by mirroring the same format within the
</ArrayOfDatabaseTemplate>tags. -
Save file.

Any time a new HyperX Database is created, a Database Template is applied to that Database. Collier Aerospace provides several Database Templates with the HyperX install to get the user started. If the user has their own Database Templates, they are added to the Templates.xml list and can also be selected upon Database creation.

Open HyperX.

(Optional) Ensure that your machine is pointed to the correct list of Database Templates (
Templates.xml).-
From the Database tab of the Ribbon, select 'Manage Templates'.

Verify the 'Database Template XML File' box is showing the correct file.

Click 'Close'.

Create a new Database from the Database tab on the Ribbon

All available Database Templates will be shown in the resulting 'Create New Database' window. Select the desired template.

Name and save the new Database.
