Analysis Plugins

Analysis Plugins enable users to implement custom failure analyses by compiling a C++ dynamic link library (DLL). This allows users to leverage custom analysis methods while letting HyperX manage the user interface, data storage, and optimization. This feature is equivalent to the User Subroutine feature available in Nastran, Abaqus.

During Sizing, HyperX will call a generic analysis method exposed in the Plugin Package DLL. HyperX passes the panel geometry, loads, and material allowables into the Plugin Package. The user is responsible for writing code to return the margins and analysis details for each plugin back to HyperX. The margins are used to eliminate candidates in Detailed Sizing optimization and are displayed in HyperX. The analysis details are used to generate Analysis Detail Reports and can be plotted in the FEM viewer.

There is no restriction on how you implement the Plugin. The Plugin Package can wrap existing C/C++/Fortran code using static or dynamic link libraries (LIB or DLL respectively). You can also read external files and shell out to executables, like Python scripts, if desired.

Once a Plugin Package is created, it can be seamlessly integrated into the HyperX Sizing or Analysis.

Prerequisites

The desired Plugin Package should be created and compiled as a .dll. This .dll should be saved in a known location on the user's machine or a common server. See the Developers Tutorial for more information.

Step #1: Import the Plugin Package

  1. On the Analysis tab of the Ribbon, select the 'Plugins' button.

  2. Navigate to the location of the desired plugin package .dll.

  3. Click 'Ok'.

Step #2: Create a Plugin Failure Mode

The methods contained in the Plugin Package are grouped into a Failure Mode that corresponds to the Package name. In the case of this example, that Failure Mode is called 'Core Ramp.'

Create a Failure Mode and select all Plugins that satisfy your analysis requirements. Use input fields and checkboxes below the method selection to set particular Analysis Settings and method defaults. Press "Apply" to save this Failure Mode to the library.

Step #3: Add Plugin Failure Mode to an Analysis Property

An Analysis Property is the mechanism for applying Failure Modes to their Zones of interest. Any Failure Mode that is assigned to a Zone will be assessed during Analysis/Sizing.

  1. Add the Plugin Failure Mode to an Analysis Property.

  2. Assign the Analysis Property containing your Plugin Failure Mode to a selection of Zones.

Subsequent Actions

Define the analysis criteria used to write margins of safety for the Zone they're assigned to. They are a collection of Failure Modes.
