As the design matures, the initial FEM geometry, architectural layout, and/or mesh will be redefined. The new model can be reimported into the HyperX Project keeping its previous setup data intact. Read more in the context of the larger FEM Workflow here.
As a design iterates and matures, the initial FEM geometry, architectural layout, and/or mesh will be redefined. HyperX allows this updated model to be reimported into the Project while keeping its previous setup data intact (as is relevant). The engineer need only ensure either the property IDs or element IDs of previously defined features are consistent between the two model revisions.

Naturally, in order to reimport a FEM, a model must already be imported. See Import a FEM.

Various mechanisms of organization and Sizing/Analysis definition are likely already complete at this point. Some recommendations include:

Model organized in Structures and Sets.

Design Load Cases have been defined.
-
Design, Load, and Analysis properties defined and assigned to corresponding Zones.

All FEM import and re-import actions are located on the FEM Import Window.

Navigate to the Model tab of the Ribbon.

Click 'FEM Import'.
-
Click 'Reimport'.
-
Use check-boxes on the resulting Reimport Options form to define how you'd like to proceed.

Update and rebuild design load cases (always) - Existing Design Load Cases will be automatically rebuilt according to any subcase changes defined in the reimported FEM.

Update Unused FEM (always) - Any FEM entities that have not been organized into Structures will be updated automatically according to any changes in the reimported FEM.

Update FEM in Structures - If selected, HyperX will automatically update any Zone (i.e. FEM entity that lives in a Structure) according to changes in the reimported FEM.

Archive project before applying changes (RECOMMENDED) - If selected, HyperX will copy and save the existing Project before completing the reimport action (thereby saving the existing pre-reimport state of your data).

Assuming you chose the 'Update FEM in Structures' option in the previous step, you'll be presented with the following form:

Choose between Element Mapping and Property Mapping

Element Mapping- Assumes element IDs remain the same between original and reimported FEM. General mesh changes typically fall under this category. This option will:

Remove any deleted elements from Structures.

Add any new elements to unused FEM.
-
Update existing node locations.
-

Property Mapping - Assumes property IDs remain the same between original and reimported FEM. Property mapping is particularly useful for cases of mesh refinement. This option will:

Update mesh in Zones corresponding to existing property IDs.

Update existing node locations.
All changes defined here apply only to entities in structures, not FEM entities that are unused.

Review the table to understand the change implications that will result from reimport. Decide whether or not to accept each change.

Click 'OK'.
Use the various HyperX tools to review any changes made upon reimport. Typically, we recommend reviewing:

Structures Tree and corresponding Zones.
