How To Open and Close a Database

A Database is opened via the Application class. Opening a Database requires the following steps:

    hsApp = win32com.client.Dispatch('HyperSizer.Application')

    while hsApp.AutomationMode == False:

        hsApp = win32com.client.Dispatch('HyperSizer.Application')

    hsApp.Login("HyperSizer Admin","")

    hsApp.OpenDatabase(database_path)

    return hsApp

The Database can be closed using Application.CloseDatabase. In most cases, you need to shut down the entire HyperSizer application (so you don't have several HyperSizer.exe processes running in the background). The following example shows how to shut down the HyperSizer application in Python.

# To close the application, dereference the application variable
# by resetting the value.
hsApp = None

A Database is opened via the hx.Open() method.

import hyperx as hx

def OpenHyperX(databasePath: str):
    
    hxApp = hx.Open(databasePath) 

    return hxApp

It's important to close the Database after tasks have been completed. The Database can be closed using the Application.CloseDatabase() method.

def CloseHyperX(hxApp: hx.Application):

    hxApp.CloseDatabase()

def OpenManagedHyperX(databasePath: str):
    with hx.OpenManagedDatabase(databasePath) as hxApp:
        hxApp.CreateProject("New Project") # Etc.
        
        # Once finished, just exit the with statement
        # and the database will be closed.
