HyperX interacts with the finite element model by overwriting or replacing the original element properties with newly sized properties. The original (source) finite element model is updated to create a new "Iteration FEM" (_i.bdf).
-
The Iteration FEM is written to the same directory as the source FEM - with an "
_i" appended to the file name. -
The source FEM structure and any associated include files are never modified.
-
The added contents of the Iteration FEM reflect all the Zones (i.e. the element and property cards associated with Zones) in the Project that have results. Properties and elements that do not have corresponding Sizing results are ignored.
-
The figure below shows how the updated properties are inserted at the end of the Iteration FEM.
Note
In addition to the Iteration FEM, two additional files are generated: the property and materials (*.PM) and the element file (*.CEL). These files contain only the HyperX-generated FEM entities that are located in the iteration FEM. These files can be particularly useful for custom processes.
For Panel Segments, the properties for each object associated with the segment are updated. As an example, the figure below shows a breakdown of how a technique 3 stringer segment is updated.
