A Structure is a collection of Zones and/or Joints that share design/analysis criteria. They typically coincide directly with the manufacturing tool surface. The image below shows a wing model divided into one Structure per part type - skin, spars, and ribs.
Tip
HyperX Structures are analogous to HyperSizer Pro Assemblies
-
FEM properties, FEM elements, Zones, or Joints can all be added to a Structure.
-
Structures are mutually exclusive. I.e. a Zone or Joint cannot be assigned to multiple Structures.
-
Zones (panel or beam) and Joints must be added to a Structure to be Analyzed or Sized.
-
Structures are organized in the Structures Tree.
Creating a Structure involves assigning a desired collection of FEM Properties, Elements, Zones, or Joints to a new Structure. This action is driven by the Create Structure Form. Here, the name of the Structure is assigned and IDs corresponding to entities (either properties or elements) are listed as they are selected. Once a Structure is created, a corresponding node appears in the Structure Tree.
Tip
Remember that a Zone can only be assigned to one Structure.
Structures can be created via a button in the Ribbon or through the right-click menu.
Option #1: Create Structure from the Ribbon
-
Navigate to the Structures tab of the Ribbon
-
Launch the Create Structure Form by selecting 'Create Structure'.
-
Name the Structure.
-
Select desired entities either in the Viewport, the FEM Tree, or the Structure Tree. See Selection.
-
Optional: Choose to import properties from the unused FEM as automatically assigned Design Properties. See How to Import Designs and Materials from FEM.
-
Click "Create".
Option #2: Create Structure from the Right Click Menu
-
Select entities in the Viewport, the FEM Tree, or the Structure Tree. See Selection.
-
Right-click on any of the selected entities.
-
Select "Create Structure" from the menu.
-
Name the Structure.
-
Optional: Choose to import Properties from the unused FEM. See How to Import Designs and Materials from FEM.
-
Click "Create".
A Structure is edited by changing either the Structure name or entity membership associated with that Structure.
Important
When editing the Structure membership, keep in mind that a Zone can only live in one Structure.
Structures are edited by:
-
Select the Structure - This is done either in the Viewport or by selecting the corresponding node in the Structure Tree. See Selection.
-
Right-click to expose the menu and select 'Edit' to launch the 'Edit Structure' form.
-
Add or remove entities using select/de-select mechanisms in the Viewport or in the Trees. Use the dialog boxes in the "Edit Structure" form to track changes being made.
-
Select "Apply" to save the edits.
-
Click "OK" to close the form.
Deleting a Structure will not only remove the Structure from the Structure Tree, but it will also return all Zones encapsulated to the unused FEM.
Structures are deleted from the option given in the right-click menu:
